Research & Translation: Translational Activities

As part of its mission to transform research into accessible information for broader audiences, the UPENN Collaborative engages in training and technical assistance activities, as well as dissemination.

TRAINING and TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ACTIVITIES

All of our Training and Technical Assistance Activities are developed to provide in-depth information and to develop specific skills and strategies necessary for promoting community integration of individuals with psychiatric disabilities in various life domains.

Trainings are designed and led by UPENN Collaborative on Community Integration partners, including persons in recovery, and can be tailored to meet the needs of an individual agency.

We offer training in the following areas:

• Community Integration Framework and Principles
• Identifying and Addressing Barriers to Community Integration and Recovery
• Increasing the Utilization of Mainstream Supports and Resources
• Promoting Community Integration in Specific Life Domains
• Building and Maintaining Provider Competencies and Skills
• Program Evaluation as a Strategy for Ensuring Program Fidelty, Evaluating Outcomes, and Marketing Your Agency and Services

DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES

UPENN Collaborative Dissemination activities are designed to reach a national audience of key stakeholders, with a goal of stimulating change in behaviors, practices and policies associated with community integration. We use a variety of the following strategies to translate research into practice:

• UPENN Collaborative personnel publish in a wide range of existing journals, newsletters, and online resources, including those that are targeted specifically to those with psychiatric disabilities, researchers, service providers, administrators, advocates, and the broader public;
• Community Integration Tools are designed to address key topics in all of the domains related to community integration;
• An ongoing commitment to presentations at conferences, workshops, and seminars that offer an opportunity to share the Collaborative's emerging knowledge base about community integration for people with psychiatric disabilities;
• Tailored training and technical assistance opportunities based on the knowledge gained from our cutting-edge research;
• Development of highly usable training manuals and program guidebooks on various aspects of community integration
• Ongoing maintenance of the UPENN Collaborative website that provides access to the latest research, trainings and products on community integration; and
• First National State of the Science Conference on Community Integration of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities
